As we celebrate “the Light of the world” this week and count down the days until a new year dawns, I pray it is filled with nothing but the hope and peace Christ came to bring.

I want to encourage you to walk into 2012 lighter. Leave behind anything that is not “of the light” – every offense, disappointment, emotional entanglement, worry, fear, hurt, or heartache – leave it all behind and step into the New Year carrying nothing but the light of Christ.

“For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining!” (1 John 2:8 NLT.)

Peace in the world begins with peace in the heart – and that peace will only be established when the Prince of Peace reigns in your heart. Give Christ full reign and allow His light to displace every dark encumbrance. Jesus said, “If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light” (Luke 11:36 NLT).

You have the power to light up your home and your world, by lighting — and lightening – up your own heart! I pray you continue to celebrate the birth of Emmanuel — “God-with-us” – by celebrating God-within-you this New Years.

Christ within you is the greatest hope the world has of seeing God’s glory. Break forth on your own world scene and declare peace. Let the light of life you carry shine before others – be a wielder of that light as you decree, “Let there be light!!” As God’s image-bearer, enforce a new order in your world.

As you reflect over the past year, thank God for His peace and His glory at work in you — and as you look toward the year ahead, ask Him to increase your capacity to manifest that peace and glory in your family, workplace, and community. Head into the New Year not only lighter, but also brighter!

Go on, light up your world!

Just as Mary carried the Seed of promise for all humanity within her womb, so you carry a seed of promise within you!

Within you lies the answer or solution to some problem or dilemma being faced today. You are the carrier of a special seed God conceived in your heart when you gave your life to Him and said “be it unto me according to thy word” (Luke 1:38 KJV).

The purpose of The 40 Day Soul Fast is to help you nurture and cultivate the seed of promise God has conceived in you.

Follow the example of Mary who took the Word of God — the promises made by God — and “kept all these things and pondered them in her heart” (Luke 2:19).

Set aside time to ponder and reflect — time to stir up the gift within your heart. Give yourself adequate margin and sufficient space to focus on nurturing the life God has conceived within you during this special season.

Part of the soul fast discipline is not allowing everyday distractions to deter you from cultivating the inner life of your soul. It will require disciplined focus, a heightened mindfulness, and keen sensitivity to God’s Spirit.

Learn to enter the rest of God on a daily basis. May we all feel His presence as we “do our best to enter that rest” (Heb. 4:11 NLT). And as we take up residence there, may we become more acquainted with the divine seeded within us, and equipped to walk in the light of what we discover.

During this Season of Light, as we count down the days until we celebrate the Light of mankind birthed into the earth two thousand years ago — remember that you are a carrier of that light to your generation.

Ephesians 5:8 NLT: “For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!”

We have been talking about soul healing — and how “soul fasting” is a mechanism you can use to initiate that inner healing.

As we become more healed from within, we learn to live more authentically, and as a result, impact the world around us with the best version of ourselves.

Interestingly, as you cleanse and nourish your soul, you discover that it’s not so much about what you are eating, but what’s eating you! You will find that as you strengthen your soul, you are building up your immunity to negative words, offenses, and the myriad of ways the world and the enemy attempt to depreciate, devalue, and disempower you.

The goal of The 40 Day Soul Fast is to guide you through the process of discarding useless toxic emotions — self-sabotaging thoughts and viruses of the mind — so that you can fully live into who God created you to be. As we enter the Advent Season, counting down the weeks until we celebrate the Birth of our Lord, I want to continue to stir and empower you to live more authentically. God, our heavenly Father, sent His Son into the world to save and heal the souls of humanity — to teach us how to live from our divinely created authentic selves.

I am on a mission to reconnect you with the true essence of your authentic self — to lead you to a place in God where your soul can be healed.

During this time of year, even as we prepare to celebrate the Birth of Christ, it is especially easy to lose focus on what is truly meaningful and life-giving. We can lose ourselves in the hype and expectations of the world.

Don’t neglect the life of your soul this Season. Guard your soul. Keep the Spirit alive within you, and don’t forget that YOU are the gift of peace and joy that someone may be desperately looking for.

We are as a nation, as a people, nothing more than the sum of our parts. If we want peace on earth, we must first be at peace within ourselves. As Mohandas Gandhi once said, “A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.”

This is why I wrote The 40 Day Soul Fast. To create a soul healing movement. Because we will only be as whole and healed as a country — as a planet — as we are as a people.

If you have heard me speak about The Prayer Warrior’s Way, you’ve heard me talk about the “orphan spirit” –a deceptive spirit that causes you to believe you are unwanted, unaccepted, and unloved. This spirit will accuse and condemn you in your heart, eroding your confidence before God.

An orphaned heart is a hurting heart. It is a condition of the soul that keeps it susceptible to disease, distraction, disorder, and dysfunction. The health of your soul determines the health of everything else — including your body.

3 John 1:2 indicates that you will only prosper and be in health to the extent your soul prospers.

I would assert that our entire world will only prosper and be in health to the extent the soul of humanity prospers! That is why I am on a soul-healing mission — and why I wrote The 40 Day Soul Fast. I believe the disease and dysfunction we see in the world around us is a direct result of the disease and dysfunction within our own souls.

The 40 Day Soul Fast is about sanctifying your soul — cleansing and detoxing on a “soul-ular level.” It is about purging the unnecessary clutter and shedding the excess baggage that trips you up – it is about dispelling the lies you have come to believe and breaking through the deception that the enemy of your soul uses to keep your judgment clouded and your mind confused.

Like any fast, The 40 Day Soul Fast is a period of time consecrated to the pursuit of holiness — a pursuit of authenticity — or the pursuit of God in search of divine clarity. The more clearly you are able to see God, the more plainly you will be able to see who you are in Him — His beloved child in whom He is well-pleased.

A healed soul is a confident soul — confident and whole in the love of the Father.

Psalm 37:37 MSG: Keep your eye on the healthy soul, scrutinize the straight life; There’s a future in strenuous wholeness. But the willful will soon be discarded; insolent souls are on a dead-end street.

In recent weeks we have been talking about the keys to prevailing prayer found in The Prayer Warrior’s Way-the importance of having confidence before God by accepting Him and approaching Him as a loving Father. He is after all, the Father of love.

This type of confidence is a strategic weapon that can be used to overcome any challenge, obstacle, or opposing force. Confidence before the Father is powerful-it is the essence of faith. Hebrews 11:1 states, “faith is confidence.”

In order for us to have that kind of confidence, however, our hearts and minds must be clear of doubt, fear, and shame. “If our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God” (1 John 3:21).

As long as our hearts are loaded down with the “cares of this world”-as long as we carry the burden of sin and self-doubt-we sabotage our confidence. That is when we need to do a thorough heart-cleanse.

What is eroding your confidence before God? What is clouding your mind, weakening your faith, and causing you to waiver?

James calls this being “double-minded”-he instructs you to “cleanse your hands . . . and purify your hearts” so you can approach God in confidence. Whatever anyone needs, he states, “let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the seas and tossed by the wind.For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways (James 1:6-8).

Stabilize your ways. Don’t allow mental minutia to divide your mind. Most importantly, “Do not throw away your confidence” (Heb. 10:35). Edify your faith and empower your prayers by detoxing your soul. This is why I wrote The 40 Day Soul Fast-as a soul cleansing tool you can use to restore your confidence.

It was an honor and privileged to partner with Bishop T.D. and First Lady Serita Jakes at another tremendously successful Woman Thou Art Loosed conference.

I want to acknowledge the leadership of Bishop Jakes as he has courageously stepped forward to create this platform on behalf of women-which is now becoming a global movement!

The WTAL movement resonates with the need of women around the world to discover and embrace the value of their authentic selves. Women are the changemakers, they are the hands and hearts that mold the next generation, and they are the world’s best hope for healing.

In Luke 8:48 (AMP), Jesus told the woman with the “issue of blood” that her confidence had made her whole. An issue of blood is an issue of life and encapsulates whatever we, as women, face on a daily basis that has eroded our confidence and left us infirm.

The beginning of confidence in prayer is realizing that there is Someone on the other end who not only wants the best for you, but also wants the same relationship with you that a parent has with a child.

He wants to see you born whole, admiring your every little finger and toe; see you grow; see you learn to walk; see you learn to fend for yourself, and never be further away than a phone call or a text message as you mature and go out to fulfill your purpose in the “family business.”

He wants to hear what you have to say; He wants to see your needs met; He wants to answer your questions; He wants to give you understanding, wisdom, and revelation; and He wants to meet your friends. He always has your back, He always has wise advice for you, He has words of encouragement and edification, and He has the power of the universe to use on your behalf when He sees fit.

All you have to do is make the connection with Him.

Imagine what the best father on earth would be like. Your heart knows more about real fatherhood than you may realize. God put a bit of Himself into each of us. Take some time to imagine how the best possible father would be, and then think again because God is a Father above what we can ask for or imagine.

Meditate on the goodness of God the Father and let Him fill your thoughts with Himself as “our Father“—that is “your Father” and “my Father“—the Father who created all of heaven and earth—the entire universe. The same Father who planned out the best for you before you were even conceived in your mother’s womb.

Again, look at how Jesus describes “our Father” . . .

Matthew 7:9-11 MSG: If your child asks for bread, do you trick him with sawdust? If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing. You’re at least decent to your own children. So don’t you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better?

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! —Matthew 7:11

Your Father. There is a spiritual revolution in those words.

Jesus didn’t teach His disciples to start their prayers, “O God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and Moses,” or “O Maker of heaven and earth,” or even “O great Spirit who sees all and knows all,” but “Our Father.”

Paul, who received the revelation of this, amplified what Jesus said here, explaining, “You received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba Father.’” (Rom. 8:15).

It is what Jesus prayed in the garden as He asked that He might not have to suffer the cross in Mark 14:36. In essence, He asked, “Father, I’ll do whatever You want Me to do, but couldn’t We save humanity some other way?”

Jesus was calling on the intimate relationship He shared with His “Dad” while appealing to the authority of the Head of His household, who was His “Father.” Bowing His knee to each, He went to the cross—but because of the quality of His relationship with the One He could call “Daddy,” He didn’t go alone.

By instructing us to pray “Our Father,” Jesus told us we had the right to go to God in this same capacity. If you learn nothing else from The Prayer Warrior’s Way, I want you to get your mind around this revelation: You are God’s child, and He wants to have a relationship with you like a father to a son, a daddy to a daughter.

God wants to not only hear your prayers, but also see those prayers develop in you the power of an overcomer!

Luke 11:12 NIV: When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
